Poverty in Indonesia

Poverty in Indonesia by Hendri Cahyadi

Indonesia is located in South East Asia with more than 13,000 islands. First, Indonesia is famous with natural resources, because of its climate that very good for harvesting. Although it is a good place for producing any kind of foods, Indonesia still under poverty and hunger. A lot of their province is in hunger. It is because government cannot provide and spread all the food equally. Here is some data to see:

1.People in roughly half of the sub-districts measured are consuming less than 1,700 kilocalories a day, well below the 2,100 kcal international standard considered necessary to provide the minimum energy required to adequately sustain an average adult.

2.More than 30 per cent of pre-school children are underweight in 772 sub-districts, particularly in North, West and South Sumatra, Jambi, East Java, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB), Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) and West Kalimantan.

    3. Infant mortality rates of 55 per 1,000 live births, significantly above the national average of 43 per 1,000, are prevalent in 1,079 sub-districts stretching across the country, including Jambi, Bengkulu, West Sumatra, Banten, West and Central Java, NTB, NTT, West and South Kalimantan and Central, South and Southeast Sulawesi.

Beside that, Indonesia is in bad monetery condition. Just yesterday, the price of gasoline is went up again. It will make lower level citizien harder to consume gasoline. Unemployment rate in Indonesia is very high as the price of daily needs is also high. Maybe, the increasing price of gasoline just not occur in Indonesia, in every country too, like USA. Nowadays, oil is very limited, but the demand of it is very high whether for industrial pyrposes or the other purposes. Maybe that is the other reason why the price of gasoline in Indonesia is high beside the unstable economy conditon.
